Five Mile Town were successful in the May 2013 round in receiving funding for an audio recording and music video for their as-yet-unreleased song ‘The Lucky Ones’.

The song had its first public airing at TEDx Auckland in 2012 and since then has been a strong live song for the band.

An audio recording and video release are planned for late 2013, with Andrew Buckton at Studio 203 the likely producer of the song. The video production is to be tendered shortly.

Communion Records Melbourne manager Ty Johnson booked the band on the strength of their NZ reputation live, as well as hearing demos of their up and coming debut album.

International charity Global Poverty Project have aligned with Five Mile Town to record songs for the 2013 Global Citizen Soundtracks Album, and to perform live in at the Global Citizen Concert to be held at the Auckland Town Hall, on August 4th 2013.

This is the 2013 New Zealand iteration of what was a major inititative in October 2012 in the USA where Neil Young, Foo Fighters and The Black Keys played live in Central Park at the Global Festival (see http://www.globalfestival.com).

Uniquely, fans can choose from a variety of cause-related actions to complete on the website http://www.globalcitizen.org) – qualify for album tracks from the Global Citizen Soundtracks Album, and be in line for free tickets to the  Global Citizen Concert to be held at The Auckland Town Hall on August 4th 2013.

The band have recorded an Arcade Fire cover of ‘Window Sill’, as well as donating the recording of a new Five Mile Town song “I’m Asleep’ to the album project. The songs were recorded and engineered live on May 6th in Auckland’s Studio A at Roundhead Studios by Ben King & Neil Baldock.

Global Poverty Project exists to heighten awareness of the prevalence on the planet of poverty in all its forms. According to the Global Poverty Project, an estimated 1.3 billion people still live in extreme poverty, on less than the equivalent of $1.50 per day. Among the issues the Global Citizen Concert and Global Citizen Soundtracks Album will seek to impact is the global effort to end polio, cases of which have been reduced by more than 99% since 1988.
